Nice: Le Château

Parc du Château

The “Parc du Château” is a 93m high hill covered with beautiful pine trees overlooking the bay of Angels (Baie des Anges) and it is my favorite place to take pictures in Nice. Nestled between the Port of Nice and the Old Town, this beautiful parc was once where stood the Castle built in the 11th century to look over the city. It was destroyed in 1705 by the French army when Nice was taken over by France.

There are several ways to get to the top of the hill all through old town, the back of the Port and the Quai des Etats-Unis, one of which an elevator!

Views, views, views!

On top of the hill, tourists can enjoy panoramic views of Nice. The Vieux Nice, the Baie des Anges, the Promenade des Anglais, the back of the city, the Alpes, the Port, the Mont Boron and Mont Alban are all waiting to be admired (and photographed)!

It is also a relaxing place to walk. It is one of the rare places in Nice that does not get over taken by swamps of tourists in the summer. When I get to the top of the hill I am always struck by the smells of pine trees and the quiet sounds of birds and the sea. So if you are planning a very short visit to Nice this is the best place to head out to to catch a glimpse of this beautiful city, soak in the Mediterranean sun and take plenty of pictures!
